Move over smoothies, juices, and bulletproof coffee . . . the next big thing coming your way is the elixir! They go by various names – tonics, potions, or even herbal lattes, but their benefits are all the same.
 
I define an elixir as a warm herbal drink (designed to taste good!) that can be a delivery system for herbal medicine.
 
As a women’s health coach who specializes in hormone balance, I utilize herbs in elixirs to help my clients achieve lasting results. Let’s start by learning what elixirs are, and then we’ll move into their benefits.
 
 

What Are Elixirs?

Elixirs are essentially herbal tea lattes. These brews can easily be customized for any dietary restriction (such as keto, vegan, sugar, dairy, and/or nut-free) and health goal (like clear skin, increased energy, reduced hot flashes, etc.).
 
I like to make my elixirs with the top-ranked herbs from Chinese tonic herbalism and eastern Ayurvedic medicine to promote women’s health and hormonal balance. These herbs have been used for thousands of years to prove they have a beneficial effect on various systems in the body.
 
Schisandra berry, for example, is a potent liver tonic. Medicinal mushrooms, like Cordyceps, are known for their beneficial effect on the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis. Filled with so many benefits, you definitely want these herbs in your morning drinks!

Shatavari is an Ayurvedic herb that translates as, “She who has 100 husbands” . . . need I say more?
 
It’s a wonderful herb for women’s hormone balance that can be used for a variety of purposes, such as increased breast milk production, enhanced fertility, boosted libido, and minimized symptoms of menopause.
 
Ingredients:
Makes one 16-ounce serving
 

 
Preparation
Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until combined and frothy. Enjoy in your favorite mug.
 
 

2. Medicinal Adrenal Tonic Latte

This elixir is my go-to for a satisfying caffeine-free coffee alternative. It features chaga and reishi – medicinal mushrooms that are anti-inflammatory, boost immunity, and reduce stress. The flavor of Dandy Blend synergizes with the mushrooms to create a coffee-like taste.
 
Ingredients:
Makes two 12-ounce servings
 

 
Preparation
Make the chaga tea: In a saucepan with a lid, combine one liter of water and three tablespoons chaga pieces. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer for one hour.
 
Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until combined and frothy. Enjoy in your favorite mug.
 
Pro Tip: Chaga mushroom pieces can be re-used to make tea one to two more times. Store the mushroom pieces in a mason jar in the fridge or freezer until you need them next. Also, extra tea can be stored in the fridge for up to a week.
