5 Yoga Poses That Motivate You in Your Life

All yoga poses have a different effect on the practitioner, be it physical, energetic or emotional, and sometimes it is worth tailoring your yoga practice to meet a specific goal. For instance, if you are looking for some extra motivation – be it on your yoga mat or in your daily life – there are certain yoga poses that can help you get there. In this article, we will look at 5 yoga poses that help bring dynamism and drive into your yoga practice and also your life.

1. Talasana, or Palm Tree Pose

The Palm Tree Pose, standing tall with your arms stretched overhead, is a fantastic way to connect with the universal cosmic energy and revitalize your body inside and out. This pose will stretch and create space in your entire body, particularly through the torso. After holding this pose for several breaths, you will begin to feel the energy in your palms and fingertips, a sign that you’ve established a connection with something greater than yourself. Now that’s a motivating feeling!


2. Uddiyana Bandha, or Abdominal Lock

Ok, you caught us – this one isn’t technically a yoga pose. But it can be used in various yoga poses to strengthen your physical foundation and empower you in the pose, as well as energetically. The abdominal lock is a fantastic energy sublimation technique that moves energy from the lower to higher chakras. As a result, your mood becomes lighter, heaviness is removed, depression can even be alleviated and we see a strong change from feelings of being “stuck” to a moving sense of empowerment and potential. When you feel empowered, you naturally feel a greater sense of motivation and overall positivity.



3. Dhanurasana, or Bow Pose

Bow Pose, whether done with a dynamic rocking motion or in a static hold, brings energy to the Manipura (or Solar Plexus) chakra and intensifies the energies of willpower, determination and action within yourself. Similar to the other suggested yoga poses here, this posture will get your vital energy force moving, give you a feeling of momentum, and propel you through your day with vigor.


4. Ushtrasana, or Camel Pose

Camel Pose is a backbend. Backbends naturally push your energy upward and through the body. Camel Pose helps expand through your chest and heart center – something that we often close off from poor posture or extended hours spent sitting at a desk. This pose also stimulates your abdominal organs, helping you feel light, strong, and refreshed. You’ll emerge with a sense of renewal, feeling confident, motivated, and ready to face your day.


5. Chakrasana, or Wheel Pose

Going a step further than Ushtrasana, Wheel Pose activates all of the chakras in the torso. Wheel Pose is a gentle inversion that will leave you feeling invigorated and your energy levels replenished. Any time your head is below your heart, you gain an increased blood supply to the brain, which releases endorphins – feel-good chemicals that help you feel upbeat and motivated. If this pose is difficult for you, then start with Setu Bandasana (Bridge Pose) and use the more advanced version of Wheel Pose as a goal to further motivate your yoga practice.

These yoga poses are listed in no particular order, and should be practiced carefully and with great attention to what your body is telling you. Back off when you need to, breathe deeply, and take your time.
Asana practice is only one part of the overall practice of yoga, but these physical postures create a strong foundation to help increase your determination, motivation, and drive. With perseverance during your time on the yoga mat, you will find these five postures help increase your ability to cope with difficulty and challenge.
