10 Places in the U.S. Every Yogi Should Visit Before They Die

When we think about spiritually energetic locations, we often visualize Bali, Tibet, Machu Picchu, Stonehenge and Berat. These locations carry a lot of power and energetic charge in their ancient foundations, not to mention their beautiful settings and fascinating history.
While perhaps not as world-renowned, there are some incredible spiritual destinations located in the United States worth checking out as well.
If you are looking to explore a few high-energy, spiritually-rich spots that are affordable and accessible to recharge your spiritual body and get more in tune with the earth’s abundance, check out these locations.

Here are 10 spiritual locations every yogi should visit in the US:

1. Boulder, CO

If you’re one who draws spiritual guidance and identity from nature, you’ll simply fall in love with the scene in Boulder. This part of Colorado as a whole has an abundance of spiritual energy, which is reflected in the local community.
Boulder is a nationally recognized yoga hub with a constant flow of yoga and meditation retreats as well as great hiking and beautiful scenery to reconnect with nature and yourself. It is the home of Elephant Journal and Yoga Journal (to name a few), as well as the infamous Flatirons carved into the mountainside that frames the town.

2. St. Petersburg, FL

The beautiful scenery and abundance of congenial weather makes St. Petersburg (affectionally referred to as St. Petes by fans) a perfect location for a holistic recharge. There is no shortage of yoga classes and opportunities to dive deeper into your practice, and the community is home to many mystics and intuitives with plenty of spiritual interests to explore.
St. Pete is also where YogiApproved columnist and founder of The Journey Junkie Allie Flavio hails from. Check out The Body Electric Yoga Company – a beautiful, unique and eclectic yoga studio that’s a local fave.

3. Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine in Los Angeles, CA

Lake Shrine has a history extending back to the 1950’s when it was founded by Paramahansa Yogananda and the Self-Realization Fellowship. Serving as a place of worship and reflection for all, this beautiful center perched at the lake’s shore is a great place to reconnect to your spiritual core with respect to all denominations of faith.
The Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine offers lakeside natural scenery and waterfalls in its famed meditation gardens. It is a regular retreat for yogis seeking guidance into a deeper spiritual connection with themselves.

4. Sedona, AZ

A great deal of Sedona’s uniqueness is placed on the presence of energy vortexes from ancient times. Magnetic, electric and balanced vortexes can be found in Sedona and they provide visitors with an influx of creative and mystical energy. There is also a thriving community of yogis, mystics and year-round yoga and spiritual events to enjoy and continue self-growth.
Be sure to hike the vortex trails (we recommend Boynton Canyon) and check out one of many intriguing spiritual bookstores (the Center For the New Age bookstore) is a fan favorite).

5. The Chopra Center in Carlsbad, CA

Founded by acclaimed writer and spiritual teacher Deepak Chopra and the late brilliant author and teacher Dr. David Simon in 1996, the Chopra Center sits on the grounds of the world-renowned Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. They have year round events and a healing center for seekers who come to re-energize and renew themselves.

6. Red Rocks, CO

Red Rocks offers yogis a one-of-a-kind outdoor yoga experience called Yoga on the Rocks. Held at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheater, these outdoor yoga classes host up to 2,000 yogis in each class and provide the most amazing energy and connection one can experience. Classes are taught at sunrise by top local instructors and practitioners are surrounded by the beautiful and mystical scenery of Red Rocks.

7. Mount Shasta, CA

Mount Shasta itself is shrouded in mystery and folklore as natives believed very deeply in the area’s mystical energy going back to ancient times. This beautiful, mythological land feature is actually a dormant volcano and sits apart from the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
Yogis who thrive off of natural settings will enjoy this mystical place as will seekers and spiritually-minded people of all walks of life. Hiking and camping are spiritually grounding activities to explore while visiting, and don’t forget to check out Mount Shasta’s energy vortex!

8. Glenwood Springs, CO

Yogis and spiritually-minded individuals visit this area for the healing properties of the world’s largest natural mineral spring pool. Glenwood Springs also has the only known North American Vapor Caves, which act as nature’s own mineral-rich healing sauna.
Aside from the springs, yogis will also find plenty of other outdoor activities available to appease the nature seeker. Include enough time to visit the area’s famous nearby Hanging Lake.

9. Berea, KY

The current 14th Dalai Lama has frequented Berea during his U.S. visits, and Tibetan monks visit to build sand mandalas and bless the waters at nearby Anglin Falls. There is a growing community of mystics, intuitives and yogis.
Check out the Transcendental Meditation Center and Shambhala meditation center, both just a short drive north in Lexington, KY. Also be sure to visit the Cumberland Falls area of Daniel Boone National Forest with ecological wonders like the Natural Bridge and one of the only two ‘Moonbows’ in the world.

10. Serpent Mound, OH

The ancient Serpent Mound and surrounding grounds are said to be a remnant of a prehistoric Native American mound building society. These amazing earthworks are significant to mystics and spiritual seekers worldwide because the large serpent effigy mound was created to align with the solstices and equinoxes of the year.
People gather to appreciate the special energy harnessed by this huge effigy during annual festivals held at each major solar event. Yogis can also enjoy the beautiful scenery, hiking trails or connect with the Amish culture.
Gifting yourself a trip to any of these locations would be an excellent opportunity to recharge and renew your spirit. We should always take the time for self-care and attention not just for our happiness, but for our health as well.
