3 Soup Recipes for a Satisfying Winter Detox

By  |

We all know how tough it can be to stay in shape during the winter. It’s cold outside and you’ve piled on every sweater you own. You’re also eating tons of carbs, protein and fat to keep your energy levels up, which may have led to you feeling sluggish or packing on a few extra pounds. You want to detox during the winter, but cold juice doesn’t sound appealing when it’s below freezing outside.
According to Ayurvedic principles, your body responds best when you stay in-tune with the seasons by eating warm foods in the colder months and cooling foods in the hotter months. Rather than going on another juice cleanse, why not try a soup cleanse?
Having soup during the cold season satisfies your body’s cravings for warmth and keeps you feeling nourished. Say goodbye to winter weight gain for good this year by healing your body with whole food that will have you glowing from the inside out.
These three soup recipes are warming, light, and perfect for your winter detox:

Soba Noodle Soup (Serves 2-3)

  • 6-8 cups of water
  • 1 inch raw ginger, peeled and thinly diced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp raw honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp soy bean paste
  • 2 large carrots, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 oz soba buckwheat noodles
  • 2 baby bok choy heads
  • 1 bunch spinach

Place the raw ginger and garlic in a pot and saute it for 1-2 minutes. When it smells pungent, add the water and raw honey. Bring it to a boil and add the soy bean paste and stir evenly to distribute and reduce clumps. Reduce to low heat and add the carrots and peas, and cook until they’re soft. Add the soba noodles and cook for another 7-8 minutes. Then, add the bok choy and spinach and cook for an additional minute or two. Pour into a bowl and enjoy this nourishing soup!

Very Green Soup (Serves 2-3)

  • 6-8 cups of water
  • 1 large head of bok choy
  • 1 bunch of collard greens
  • A pinch of salt

Dice one large head of bok choy and a bunch of collard greens into bite-sized pieces. Add the greens to a pot of water and bring it to a boil. Add a pinch of salt and cook for about 10-15 minutes. Yes, that’s all it takes for this quick-and-easy soup!

Turmeric-Infused Potato Cabbage Soup (Serves 2-3)

  • 10-12 cups of water
  • 3 organic russet potatoes
  • 2 organic Japanese sweet potatoes
  • 1/2 a large head of cabbage
  • 1 tbsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Peel and chop the potatoes into pieces. Put them into a large pot of the water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and let them fully cook (time will vary depending on size of potato pieces). Meanwhile, dice the cabbage into thin slices and add it to the pot. Add the turmeric and garlic powder. Let everything cook for another 5-10 minutes until the cabbage and potatoes are fully cooked. Serve and enjoy!
You can finally beat that winter bulge with these warming soups. You may also want to put aside those weights and substitute in any harsh physical training for a light jog, walk or yoga instead. Being kind to your body helps your body function optimally.
