Why My Best Friend’s Name is Yoga

Yoga is about surrendering and unraveling the tangled thoughts and worries that surround us.
 
Finding something that is so sweet and calming to the soul is something I crave every single morning. We all could use a dose of this. Allowing ourselves to dive into our day with a clear mind and ready to conquer the world is just the beginning. We need a boost, a push and an incentive to get the ball rolling. With a little taste of this pure bliss, we are able to not only reflect on the previous day, but to release the unwanted stress attached with it.

Yoga is about letting go without fear and taking one step further into the unknown.

Yoga is about letting go without fear and taking one step further into the unknown. It guides us in the direction of feeling protected and empowered with each taste and breath. Every yoga session is a lovely surprise and a burst of energy for nourishment.
 
I remember my first experience with yoga over 15 years ago. I honestly didn’t know what it was and thought of it as something so foreign that I wouldn’t be able to grasp it. As I explored the city one day looking for something new to sink my teeth in, I came across a yoga studio. I thought to myself, what is this? I signed in and purchased a pass for the day. Walking into this class was not only a complete shock but to my surprise, I was beyond excited and eager to get started. I noticed that I wasn’t the only interested newbie, so I felt at ease. The instructor was patient, kind and had the warmest spirit. As she guided us through this special session of learning about our body and connecting with ourselves emotionally, mentally and spiritually, I felt like I found a new best friend.
 
I know you’re probably thinking I’m speaking about the teacher. No – my new best friend was yoga. As I stretched each part of my body with every breath I had, this rush of inspiration, hope and clarity with life poured over my body as if I was standing under a waterfall. It was a ceremony to celebrate myself in this body that I was given to live in. It was a moment to celebrate others as their beautiful selves. That particular day has become a fresh thought in my mind as if it was yesterday.
 

 
Yoga has always felt like a warm blanket to me and I’m quite sure that it is many things to many people. All of our experiences in life shape who we are, and yoga definitely was an experience to help me along my path in life.
 
Yoga creates a space of comfort and understanding. The practice reminds us that it is incredibly important to take time to breathe slowly and allow the chapters of our lives to unfold naturally. Each yoga practice will reveal a new opportunity of growth in your life.
 
Today may be the perfect day for you to wrap yourself up in a warm blanket of yoga.
 
I will leave you with a few morning mantras to try during your morning yoga session to make your yoga practice feel even more like a warm, cozy, comforting blanket:
 
I am unique and powerful from within.
I believe in myself and show up in the world giving my best.
I will explore all the possibilities within my day to make it great.
I am in control of my happiness.
