”Namaste, Bitches” – A Yoga Comedy Series (Video)

“Namaste, Bitches is the Girls of yoga.” – LA WEEKLY

“Namaste, Bitches” is a new yoga online comedy series that introduces us to Sabine, a young yoga teacher who moves from New York to Los Angeles. Sabine is new to California and eager to Chatarunga into the Hollywood yoga scene.

As soon as she walks into the Namaste Yoga studio, she is greeted with a trial teaching position that leaves her subject to a frosty reception from the image-obsessed L.A. instructors.

The boss, whose name is Radhe, lays out the rules: “If you can build a following in five weeks, I might have a spot for you. Otherwise, we practice abhyasa.” Abhyasa is also known as non-attachment to the outcome.

“No selfies in yoga.”

Together, the characters form a dysfunctional workplace that sheds light on insecurity, power grabs, and backstabbing. This creates a perfect stage for irony and humor in a place that preaches being Zen and owning your truth. Sabine’s moral compass is tested by scandalous behavior, rival teachers, judgmental students . . . and in the end, even herself.

“Be your truth.”

The series is connoted with a deeply sarcastic tone, and is meant to be satirical. Viewers can expect hilarious passes at the exaggerated depictions of yoga culture. That being said, the end of the series does leave you with a sense of closure, and a reminder of how important ‘gratitude’ is to the end of every sentence.

The show sheds a stark light on behaviors that are common to yoga studios, but are rarely discussed. This turns the conversation to a particularly secular question: What exactly does it mean to practice yoga in the Western world?

There are six episodes to the web series, and each episode is less than five minutes, making for a quick and easy watch. We hope you enjoy this interesting take on the yoga scene. In the words of the show, “Namaste, Bitches.” : Check out the pilot episode below and go here to watch the rest!
