We hope this article inspires you to make more conscious purchasing choices. When you understand you have the power to add value to people’s lives with the value of your dollar, you will want to use your change to change the world for the better because that is truly priceless!

We hope by reading this, you will learn about stretching outside of the context of your yoga mat. You will have a new awareness of how far money can be stretched to help the earth, humanity AND a business, instead of JUST the business.

In the same way you bend your back to make a bridge, which helps open your heart, we hope this article opens your heart to a very important way that you can help bridge racial, economical, environmental, social and humanitarian gaps in business – by deciding to buy from brands that give back!

If you’re not sure where to start, keep reading to learn about these seven yoga brands that are worth every cent because they help you make sense of giving back!

We Love These 7 Yoga Brands That Give Back:

1. OM Matters

OM MATTERS

OM Matters creates tools and accessories such as yoga apparel, yoga and meditation practice cards, healing crystal kits and meditation candles that help you live your life mindfully, joyfully and on purpose.

Their spiritual self-care is built on the timeless tenets of yogic tradition and encourages us to have a conscious awareness that every action we take matters; everything and everyone is interconnected. This brand embodies this belief by following the practice of ahimsā or non-harming animals, plants, ourselves or the environment. For example:

  • They source, manufacture, and package all of their yoga products in the USA, which reduces their carbon footprint
  • They use recycled materials to package all their products
  • They use eco-friendly products made with natural, synthetic-free and biodegradable materials

For every item of yoga clothing you purchase from OM Matters, they’ll donate 10% of the proceeds to fund yoga for at-risk youth and explain exactly where your dollars are going.

2. Sozy

SOZY

If you’ve ever wanted to rip off your clothes to change into something more comfortable, you’ll want to keep reading because this woman-owned brand never wants you to have that feeling again! Lanai Moliterno wants women to feel comfortable ALL day so she did the math to create a clothing brand with the equation of soft + cozy = Sozy!

10% of Sozy’s profits support survivors of sexual violence. Sozy partners with RAINN – Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network – the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization to prevent sexual violence, help survivors, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.

Sozy also gives back by:

Being a part of a global movement that inspires businesses and individuals to support environmental solutions through committing to donate the equivalent of 1% of gross sales directly to environmental nonprofits

  • Being Climate Neutral Certified, which means taking responsibility for their carbon emissions
  • Being a CleanHub partner to help collect plastic waste before it can enter the ocean

This brand that gives back is setting new standards for empowering women and victims, helping our planet, and running businesses with integrity!

3. YA Classes by YouAligned

YA CLASSES

You might think we’re biased with recommending our own brand, YA Classes by YouAligned, but with over 248,000 trees planted and counting, our members are helping us give back in a big way!

For every class a member completes, we plant a food-producing tree for farming communities in West Africa, in partnership with Trees for the Future.

The root of Trees for the Future’s mission is to end hunger and poverty by training farmers to regenerate their land and building healthy soil – literally so healthy fruits and vegetables can be grown to eat and sell – but also metaphorically so others can follow suit and grow this sustainable practice to ensure the health of future generations!

This means when you take a class on YA Classes, you will not only feed your soul through yoga, but you will also be helping to feed farmers and their families through planting food-producing trees!

4. Pi Yoga Pants

PIYOGA

In 2015, Larissa, the founder of Pi Yoga Pants, quit her job to follow her lifelong aspiration of traveling the world. Bali is where Pi Yoga Pants was born.

These magical yoga pants were initially made by a local Balinese seamstress and her daughter that Larissa was introduced to by a taxi driver. That same mother, daughter duo is the embodiment of women empowerment for the brand as they continue to make the pants that are now sold internationally.

Buying from companies that give back puts people and our planet at the forefront.

Pi Yoga’s goal is to empower people of all shapes and sizes to feel comfortable and confident on and off their yoga mat, they’re ethical and handmade with love from Bali, and 10% of the net profits made are donated to sea turtle conservation efforts.

Pi Yoga Pants partners with the following organizations that share their giving back goal to help protect our oceans:

  • The Gili Eco Trust: They are a local non-profit organization committed to coral reef restoration, waste management, sustainable tourism, and environmental education. Pi Yoga Pants fully sponsored a project for this organization which included building and dropping a massive, 10-foot bio rock that helps preserve the coral reef! It has become home to hundreds of fish, and yes…sea turtles too!
  • The Coral Restoration Foundation™: They are the largest coral reef restoration organization in the world. One of this organization’s main efforts is to create coral tree nurseries, which are essentially gardens under the sea that aid in reef restoration and coral health
  • The World Wildlife Fund (WWF): They provide education on sea turtles and the daily threats that they face. They also offer sea turtle adoption kits that come in an adorable gift basket with educational material about these precious sea cuties!

In summary, we love to see all the ways Pi Yoga Pants is helping the sea! You can find more details about their efforts by reading This Yoga Brand is Using Artificial Coral Reefs to Help Save our Oceans!

We hope other brands aren’t as slow as turtles to do the same!

5. Mama Glow

MAMA GLOW

When some people hear the word pregnancy, they might think of words like painful, exhausting, sickening or scary!

But it doesn’t have to be those things. And that’s because there is a Black- and woman-owned company called Mama Glow that has birthed a new paradigm for pregnancy!

Giving back shouldn’t simply be a trend.

It is a model where women reclaim their bodies and feel like models, a model where the process of creating and delivering life is sacred, and a model where families of all types can feel safe and seen at every stage.

Mama Glow supports women and families during the fertility period, during pregnancy, after birth, and into new motherhood offering a full spectrum approach to holistic wellness.

Whether you are searching for the perfect doula, a great prenatal yoga class, one-on-one personal guidance or spiritual support, they have put in the labor to make sure you are covered!

Because education, inspiration and advocacy are the babies of Latham Thomas, owner of Mama Glow, she conceived the Mama Glow Foundation. Some of the ways they give back include but are not limited to:

  • Providing scholarships for BIPOC & LGBTQ+ birth workers who intend to serve in and for their communities as well as for midwifery education programs
  • Providing Doula education, through a partnership with Ladies of Hope Ministries, for formerly incarcerated folks who intend to serve as birth workers
  • Hosting annual conferences around reproductive justice
  • Collaborating with local service providers, state policymakers and national legislators to help shape the narrative around maternal health
  • Funding film and art projects that fight against reproductive inequities

Mama Glow helps mothers who need to push to deliver, but they also push other businesses to deliver better standards for giving back!

6. Give Back Yoga Foundation

GIVE BACK YOGA FOUNDATION

We knew we couldn’t write an article about yoga brands that give back without including this organization that has the words “Give Back” in their name!

The mission of Give Back Yoga Foundation is to bring the therapeutic benefits of yoga to people with limited access to this practice. For example, they help yoga teachers, health workers and charitable organizations offer yoga to veterans, prisoners and individuals facing mental and physical illness.

Studies Show Yoga in Prisons Offers Support and Rehabilitation for Inmates

They also work with community partners to increase access to yoga for populations that face systemic bias and prejudice.

There are several ways they give back to uphold their mission.

  • They offer Teacher Training Scholarships: This scholarship program provides an opportunity for those who practice yoga that don’t often see their identity represented by those who currently teach it to become the change they wish to see.
  • They supply yoga mats: Through their Yoga Mat Grant program, they supply materials to help yoga teachers kickstart their own outreach programs.
  • They sponsor new yoga organizations: This fiscal sponsorship allows new yoga service organizations to get out in the world and actually teach yoga rather than being bogged down by the process of setting up their own non-profit. In addition, Give Back Yoga Foundation will provide mentorship, accounting, and grant management to these new yoga organizations

7. SoloSol Movement

SOLOSOL MOVEMENT

This women-owned brand- founded and owned by sisters- creates yoga clothes that save dogs!

In 2014, in Bali, Charlene & Trina Solomon founded SoloSol Movement, an activewear company that blends fitness, fashion and functionality for wild-hearted, free-spirited, and adventure-seeking souls.

However, they quickly realized that beyond the beauty of Bali, there was an ugly truth for Bali street dogs. They were starving, dehydrated and suffering. So the sisters decided to embark (see what we did there) on a journey to help.

They quickly partnered with Bali Dog Adoption and Rehabilitation Center, or BARC, a no-kill animal rescue center. This organization heals and rehabilitates dogs, does sterilization days where they spay and neuter street dogs and cats to control rampant overpopulation.

They also speak up against the local government to prevent elimination days where any dog without a collar is euthanized, and travel to schools to educate the next generations about caring for animals and to debunk common misconceptions about street dogs.

And so much more!

Every time you make a purchase from SoloSol Movement, these sisters will donate $1 to BARC. How PAW-some is that? (We couldn’t resist!)

SoloSol Movement helps remind us that it’s not a dog-eat-dog world out there; with kindness and love, we can change lives and look fab while doing it!

Give Back to Brands That Love to Give Back Love

When we think about giving back, it’s not money that makes the world go round, it’s love.

When companies give back, the earth gets loved on, humans feel loved, and the business gets love back from its consumers as a result. In this cycle, giving means that everyone also receives. Love wins!

While this article only lists seven brands, we love knowing there are so many more! For example, check out these 10 Amazing Activewear and Yoga Brands that Give Back When You Buy too!

This list is by no means exhaustive and instead serves as a glimpse into the world of supporting businesses that use their platforms to give back. What brand do you love that gives back? Leave a comment below and let us know – we love hearing from you!
