Best Online Resources for Yoga Teachers – Your Complete Guide

As a yoga teacher, your passion is sharing the practice with others. Does that mean you get to spend all of your free time studying the practice? Unfortunately the answer is no. For a successful career in teaching yoga, yoga teachers need to put as much time into marketing themselves, promoting their classes and building their brand as they do studying.

So how do we find the time to continue our education and keep up with the business side of yoga? We find ways to work more effectively. Luckily, with the internet at our fingertips, we do not have to go far.

Here’s your complete guide to online yoga resources every teacher needs to know:

Below is a list of top online resources to help every yoga teacher work more efficiently to make more time for your yoga practice and self-study.

1. Join the Largest Association of Yoga Teachers

Yoga Alliance is an incredibly valuable online resource for all things yoga, and particularly for yoga teachers, it’s your one-stop shop. This is where you register once you’ve completed Yoga Teacher Training to become a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT).

All yoga teachers should have a searchable online yoga biography and a place to track continuing education and other important career milestones. Yoga Alliance houses a Registered Yoga Teacher directory, in addition to a database where you can log all of your training hours, continuing education credits, etc and more.

2. Sequence Your Yoga Classes

Many new yoga teachers get overwhelmed with how to sequence their yoga classes. All yoga teachers feel stale and uninspired at some point in their teaching. Luckily there are a few online yoga resources to help make these challenges easier.

Yoga Journal has a free sequence builder that helps you build classes by levels and save them on your account. Or you can try programs like Sequenched or Tummee.com for more options.

3. Find the Right Yoga Teacher Insurance

That’s right! You need yoga insurance. I will never forget my excitement when I received my yoga certification, then having a major buzz kill when I learned yoga teachers need insurance. That was when I first realized teaching yoga wasn’t just about your student, but about the very important business side as well.

There are many insurance coverage options out there, but not all are created equally. It’s important to find the right type of insurance for you, because there are many factors to consider:

  • Where you teach – at one studio, privates, abroad, etc
  • How much coverage you need – dollar amount of coverage for you, your students, etc
  • How much you want to pay
  • Any additional perks / benefits to the plan you’re considering

There’s actually not a lot of places online where you can find and compare several yoga insurance policies. Luckily, YouAligned compiled a reference guide of the main yoga insurance companies on the market.

4. Build Your Professional Yoga Website

At this point, it’s common knowledge that every yoga teacher needs a website. Your website will often be the first thing people search for to learn more about who you are as a teacher, your offerings, specialities, events, and class schedules.

Thankfully, finding a great web host to fit your needs has become much easier for the less tech savvy people (like myself). Web hosting companies like Bluehost have made creating a website much more streamlined and accessible.

5. Be Social Media Savvy

Like websites, social media is another essential tool when building your yoga business and brand. Managing multiple platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter can really cut into your time on your yoga mat.

That’s why social post and managing tools like Buffer and Hootsuite are such a lifesaver. These tools allow you to post content to multiple accounts at once, schedule posts for later dates and keep track of how your social media content is performing all in one place.

6. Find Online Continuing Education (CE)

To continue to grow as a yoga teacher, you need to continue to be a student. Attending workshops is a great way to continue your education as a yoga teacher. CE credits are also required by Yoga Alliance.

But often times our schedules won’t allow us to attend as many workshops, lectures or trainings as we’d like. Many teachers are turning to online courses like 90 Monkeys for online classes with content ranging from yoga teaching to professional development.

7. Grow Your Yoga Business

Do you love yoga but find yourself overwhelmed with the business side of being a yoga teacher? There are online resources out there to help! One resource is The Yogipreneur which is an online site full of content and podcasts all about yoga business.

Yoni Speaks is an amazing resource for all things yoga business for yoga professionals. Find guidance on everything from personal branding to career development, promotion, and more.

YogaTrail also allows students who join the network to search classes and workshops in their area. This simple network search will allow your classes and events to be seen by potential new students, which is a great way to continue building a following.

9. Teach Yoga Anywhere

10. Nurture Your Personal Yoga Practice

Perhaps the most valuable piece of advice for a yoga teacher is to maintain your personal practice. While your personal practice may look different than it did before you started teaching, it’s more important than ever to remain a student to the practice.

You can find an endless supply of yoga videos, classes, and articles online. YouAligned offers all of these things in one easy spot!
