Cleanse, Create Space, and Find Clarity With This New Year’s Eve Ritual

Every day brings an opportunity to start fresh, make changes, and welcome new beginnings! However, there are certain dates in the calendar that enhance the perfect moment for “renewal.” Moon cycles, the beginning of spring season, and new years are a few.

There is something extra special about a new year because it marks the closing of a chapter in our lives. This is the time of year when we reflect on the past year and start making resolutions for the next year. We often hope that the year ahead will be different and better.

Every year, I prepare myself physically, mentally, and spiritually to welcome the coming year with a new years ritual.

“Now, as we close one chapter, the pen is gradually inking up, preparing itself to write the next.” – Mie Hansson

These new year rituals start with cleansing and decluttering your physical space to remove negativity. I throw away things that no longer serve me anymore. A clean and organized space gives peace of mind, allowing energy to flow and creating space to bring new things in.

Then, I cleanse my heart and mind of any negative emotions that have weighed me down over the last year.

Finally, there is a planning phase. This step is a compass because it allows one to set objectives to begin on a new journey.

So let’s begin our new year rituals to usher in the new year with a powerful intention. Read on for a step-by-step guide!

Follow These 3 Steps for an Empowering New Year’s Eve Ritual:

Here’s how to perform a simple yet powerful new years ritual to welcome in the new year and manifest whatever it is you seek to bring into your new year.

1. Cleanse Your Physical Space

Have fun with this first step in your new years ritual. Play your favorite music and open the windows! Get two big garbage bags – one for “things to donate” and another one for “things to throw away.”

Go ahead and deep clean your whole house, and as you clean every room make a “donation pile” and a “garbage pile.”

This process can be challenging but when you let go of things that no longer serve you and simplify, you’ll open space for new and great things to come into your life!

When you are done cleaning your house, light a white candle. This has been used for centuries as a tool for removing negative energy from space and to mark the final phase of the cleansing process.

2. Clear Your Heart and Mind

Get comfortable in a quiet place, sit down with a piece of paper and pen, take a few breaths, relax, and start writing everything that needs to get OUT. Release any negative feelings of anger, fear, shame, or sadness onto that paper.

Use the end of your writing time to forgive yourself and others. Forgiveness will allow you to cleanse your heart from negative emotions. When you are done, flush or burn the paper as a symbolic way to release all of those negative feelings from your heart and mind.

A burning ceremony is a common new years ritual because of its powerful symbolism in letting go.

As an optional step, you can also ask Archangel Raphael, the angel of healing, to assist you with cleansing your heart with his green emerald healing light.

Archangels are very powerful spiritual messengers sent to support you as you face life’s challenges.

Simply close your eyes, shift your awareness within and say: “Archangel Raphael, please surround me with your beautiful green healing light. Help me release all negative emotions from my heart and assist me to cleanse my aura and energy centers (AKA the chakras). Thank you, thank you, thank you. And so it is.”

3. Set Your Intentions

No new years ritual is complete without intention setting!

Mark the beginning of a brand new cycle by setting new intentions for the year ahead. Start by writing out a simple and clear intention for the new year. Focus on how you want to feel and who you want to be this year as a guide to finding the intention that best serves you currently.

If you’d like to add onto this intention, write a list of goals for the year ahead. If you wish, you can add an action plan that outlines how you’ll reach your goals. You can also add a timeline to them if that’s helpful.

Review this list of key areas in your life you may want to set an intention for:

  • Physical body/Health
  • Mind/Intellect/Personal development
  • Spiritually/Faith
  • Family/Marriage/Parenthood
  • Social/Friends
  • Career/Business/Volunteering
  • Finances
  • Environment/Community
  • Fun/Travel/Hobby

Welcome a New Year With This Cleansing New Year’s Eve Ritual!

This new years ritual is a powerful one that brings clarity, creates space, and makes you feel empowered.

By cleansing your house, your heart and your mind, and setting your intentions, you are preparing yourself for a great new year ahead.

When we take time to physically cleanse our space, the energy carries over into our mental space as well so we can feel clear and find clarity. That’s an important first step in intention setting, because we need the clarity to find what we truly need.

The final step of this new year’s eve ritual is finding gratitude. Being grateful provides you with the opportunity to be thankful for the lessons you’ve learned over the last year and welcome the new and exciting possibilities that await you in the future.

As Mie Hansson said, “Now, as we close one chapter, the pen is gradually inking up, preparing itself to write the next.”
