The Importance Of Trust And Why It’s Worth It (Video)

Trust is fundamental to our lives. If you can’t trust in anything or anyone, life becomes intolerable—a constant battle against paranoia and fear of looming disaster.
The statement, “You can’t trust anyone these days,” seems to be more prevalent than a generation ago, or even a month ago given all the attention to the abuse of trust in the media. What does this mean for the future of our society and our interpersonal relationships?
Having trust allows us to breathe. Think of the places in your life where trust lives. More often than not, these are the places you love. This could be your significant other, your best friend, your dog, your home, or your family. We run to these places because we trust that they are there for us. They allow us to let down our barriers, to stop looking behind us and just be.

So how do we get more of this? How do we reverse this lack of trust that seems to be building on itself in our lives? How do we get back the massive amounts of energy that we spend protecting ourselves from being taken advantage of or being let down? How do we stop the hours of extra work we do because we are afraid to delegate it to someone, afraid to release control out of a lack of trust that the person might do it wrong or make a decision that you wouldn’t have. It starts with trust. A leap of faith that says, “I am going to trust you.”

Stop preparing to be disappointed.

Remember, thoughts become things. If you don’t trust, you will be rewarded with faithlessness. It’s an unfortunate guarantee. Checking other’s text messages, looking for mistakes and inconsistencies that substantiate your assumptions will never lead to a trusting relationship. You will see what you want to see.
If you have trust issues in your life, I challenge you to stop this cycle. Trust in your husband or wife, boyfriend or girlfriend, your co-workers etc. Give them that gift and feel the weight lift off of your shoulders. Yes, you will be disappointed here and there; people will still take advantage of you. Not everyone is good. But I promise you, it will happen less often and I promise you most of the people in your life – the ones worth having – will rise to the challenge of reciprocating the trust you have given them.

Who can you trust and how can you grow it?

This video is a beautiful representation of how trust allows us to leg go, be supportive, and thrive.
