How to Understand Your Hormones and Regain Control of Your Body

Taking back control of your body starts with diving deeper into understanding how our bodies work. We need to pay attention to the foods, products, exercises and everyday routines we consume and carry out each day.

You cannot control your body. You need to learn how to work with it.

There is one mistake so many women make, and that is trying to control their hormones. Women have hormones; they fluctuate, they are unpredictable at times, and at the end of the day, these hormones can really suck! We try to control these hormones with medication, birth control and over-exercising.

Yet these methods don’t work because if you think about it, how can you really control your hormones? You can’t!

Learning how to manage your hormones every month is best.

Working with your body and giving it the nourishment it needs to thrive is what is most important. Be okay with the fact that some days you may be more sensitive and need a little more self-care and pampering.

Here are 3 tips to balance your hormones and gain control of your body:

1. Stay Away from Added Hormones
Staying away from hormones that are not naturally occurring in your body is best. Hormones, from the food we eat to the medication we take, can really take a toll on our bodies, causing acne, unwanted hair growth, weight gain, skin disorders, digestive disorders and depression.

When not sourced from organic and non-GMO farms, food such as meat and dairy are more likely to contain added hormones. There are also foods that disrupt our natural hormonal state even though they don’t contain hormones; these include soy, alcohol, corn syrup, white sugar, white flours and high amounts of caffeine.

As women, we should protect our bodies from artificial hormones to protect ourselves from losing our essence of what makes us women.

2. Eat Healthy Fats
Healthy fats are essential to any diet! Healthy fats balance hormones, regulate menstrual cycles, create glowing skin, and enhance hair, nails and overall energy. Consuming healthy fats like avocados, sweet potatoes, legumes, nuts and seeds and even coconut oil are great options. Yum!

3. Cultivate a Calm and Peaceful Nervous System
One way to keep our hormones in harmony is by calming our nervous system and allowing our mind and soul to simply relax. When we let our nervous system get the best of us in a negative way, it creates chaos within our bodies. A lot of women with hormonal issues suffer from anxiety, stress and moodiness – some even on a daily basis.

So – how can we control hormonal issues?

Look for triggers

Find out what triggers you, and when you see your trigger approaching, prepare yourself and breathe! Being able to recognize what your emotional triggers are in your body is a huge step in calming yourself down.

Practice deep breaths

Ask yourself – if you react the way your emotions want you to, what will your outcome be? It is better to stay calm and breathe through it. Step away from a situation and come back to it when you feel you’re ready. Emotional stress can be a huge determining factor in the progression of the healing process.

It all comes back to one main issue.

How do we find balance, understanding, and compassion for our bodies in a society that is impatient, impulsive and wants immediate results with little effort?

There is only one way: stop focusing on control and start nourishing our bodies with a healthy routine, good food, balance, joy and knowledge. It is time that we stop letting people tell us what is wrong with our bodies and start taking action – not just for us but for our future children and grandchildren.

Ladies! Let’s take control of our bodies, and learn to cherish every flaw and imperfection. Only by doing this will we begin to see true health and transformation!
