10 Natural Home Remedies for Dry Skin and Itchy Irritations

As many of us have experienced, bug bites can be quite painful and, oftentimes, can leave our skin with welts that feel itchy and irritated.

If you are an outdoorsy type of person, you are probably familiar with rashes caused from various plants and insects like poison ivy or mosquitoes.

To alleviate rashes and dry skin, you do not need potions, lotions, and other commercialized products filled with unknown, harmful chemicals. Instead, you can get rid of these irritating rashes using natural, herbal, home remedies for dry skin and irritations.

These alternative medications can help everything from eczema to poison ivy rashes, and a host of other itchy, dry skin conditions.

Use These 10 Home Remedies for Dry Skin to Soothe Any Itchy Irritations:

1. Clay With Bentonite or Montmorillonite

Clay is very effective in treating venomous stings and bites from various insects, such as wasps, spiders, and bees. The clay will extract the venom out of your skin and relieve the itch and pain. This is one of the best home remedies for dry skin because this remedy will also help repair your skin quickly.

To use:
Mix the clay in a bowl with filtered water. Mix it thoroughly until it becomes consistently creamy, like peanut butter. After that, all you have to do is dab the mix onto the effected area of your skin.

If you prefer to create a clay pack, you can spread the clay on a clean and porous fabric and then place that cloth on the irritated area. Make sure the clay touches your skin directly.

2. Versatile Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) can often work miracles in various aspects of your health and beauty regimen, as many of you probably already know. Apple cider vinegar is a very effective antiseptic, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent, and an excellent itch-reliever. ACV is also one of our favorite home remedies for dry skin, sunburns, and dandruff.

To use:
Simply put a few drops of the vinegar on a cotton ball or cloth and dab it on the part of your skin where you have the rash.

It is always best to use raw, unfiltered, and organic apple cider vinegar. It has beneficial bacteria and raw enzymes that are very useful for treating your irritated skin.

3. Clay Mixed With Apple Cider Vinegar

Clay offers fantastic benefits and apple cider vinegar can work miracles. If you combine both of these recipes into a powerful duo, it can help to relieve all your rashes.

To use:
Place clay in a bowl. Instead of using water, substitute apple cider vinegar. Mix them together until it becomes creamy and consistent. When it fizzes up, just add some more ACV.

4. Cooling Peppermint Leaves

As many of you know, peppermint leaves are used as a remedy for many health issues. Peppermint leaves are highly effective against bug bites and itching. The leaves have a cooling sensation that will relieve the pain that the rashes can cause.

To use:
All you have to do is crush the leaves and rub it on the affected skin.

Bonus tip: Freeze the crushed peppermint leaves inside ice cubes (using a regular ice cube tray) for double the cooling sensation. The cold feeling will reduce the swelling and inflammation of the affected skin. Make sure you use clean, filtered water.

5. Fresh Basil Leaves

Camphor and thymol are amazing anti-itch compounds, and fresh basil leaves are rich in these elements. Basil can easily manage itching caused from bug bites.

Instead of scratching your skin, rub the leaves on that area every time you get an itch. This gives you healthy relief when you have the strong urge to scratch.

To use:
All you have to do is crush up the leaves and rub them directly onto your affected skin.

6. Moisturizing Olive Oil

As we know, one of the many benefits of extra virgin olive oil is that it’s one of the best home remedies for dry skin. Olive oil also supports skin renewal and healing with all its Vitamin E and antioxidants. This recipe will reduce itching and soothe your skin.

To use:
Rub olive oil and a dash of honey on the irritated part of your skin two to three times per day until your irritation is relieved.

7. Fruit Peels

Don’t throw out that watermelon and banana peel just yet! You can use them to rid your skin of rashes caused by insect bites.

To use:
Simply rub the peel on the affected area of your skin.

Important to note: It is best to use these remedies indoors because the scent of the fruit peel can also attract bugs.

8. Avenanthramides From Oatmeal

Avenanthramides are effective in reducing inflammation, and oatmeal grains are filled with these compounds. This is why people take oatmeal baths, and also why oatmeal soaps are readily available in grocery stores.

However, you do not have to buy oatmeal soaps just to get rid of your skin rashes.

To use:
You can create your own oatmeal poultice by adding plain, uncooked oatmeal and water in a bowl. Let it sit until it becomes paste-like, then apply that paste directly to your irritated skin. Talk about simple and effective home remedies for dry skin!

9. Aloe Vera

Whatever your skin irritation issue is, aloe vera can actually restore it. As all of us know, aloe vera is useful for skincare and quite an incredible medicinal plant full of nutritional benefits. It can relieve swelling and skin irritation and it also soothes your skin and relieves it from pain and itching.

To use:
First, remove a leaf from the aloe vera plant. Use a knife to cut it lengthwise. Inside the leaf is a gooey gel. Remove the gel and rub it on your irritated skin. If you have leftover gel, you can store it in your refrigerator for future use.

10. Baking Soda

Baking soda is effective to dry out skin rashes, relieve itching, and reduce inflammation.

To use:
Add baking soda to three parts water, and then apply the mix to your irritated skin. Leave it on for a few minutes, and then rinse it off. Do this once a day every day until your irritated skin is relieved.
