Copper is found in many foods that you eat on a daily basis. It is essential to a healthy diet and proper system function, it can be used for pain relief and has a variety of other benefits to your health.

Like many of you, I have typical aches and pains that I would rather treat with a natural remedy than popping painkillers. I already take daily multi-vitamins and probiotics to keep my body in balance, but for pain relief, I turn to copper.

Your body doesn’t produce copper, but you can add it to your life in a variety of ways from the foods you eat to jewelry and clothing. Once copper is in your system, it’s stored in your bones and muscles.

How to Incorporate More Copper Into Your Life:

There are many ways to integrate copper into your life and diet, including supplements, jewelry, clothing, and drinkware. I would rather utilize the benefits of copper in its non-pill form. Namely, I’ve integrated copper jewelry and copper drinking vessels into my daily routine.

1. Copper Jewelry

When wearing copper jewelry, such as necklaces or bracelets, the skin absorbs just enough copper to be beneficial to the body. I wear a healing copper bracelet from Sivana Spirit.

It is a cuff, so I can pinch it all the way until the ends touch to fit my tiny (less than 7-inch wrists), and it has soft edges, so I don’t need to take it off during my yoga practice.

I have extremely cold hands and feet, and this bracelet helps my blood circulate and warm my hands and fingers. To test out this theory, I often switch which wrist I wear the bracelet on and then compare the temperature of my hands and fingers at multiple times throughout the day.

No matter which wrist I wear the bracelet on, my hands and fingers are warmer than the other wrist. Also, the pain in my left wrist goes away entirely when I wear the bracelet on that wrist.


2. Copper Drinking Vessels

There are thousands of copper drinking vessels in the marketplace, from cups and mugs to urns and pitchers. Fill your cup with water and cover it each night, and by the next morning, drink the water when it has had enough time to absorb the copper.

The cup’s instructions describe that drinking from the copper cup first thing in the morning increases agni – the digestive “fire” that is necessary for proper digestion, reduced acidity and regular elimination. The water is clean and purified and tastes just like water from any other cup.

I cannot speak to the anti-aging, anti-acne, anti-inflammatory benefits with certainty, but I can say that my stomach feels more settled and less acidic on days that I drink from the cup compared to days that I skip or forget to drink my copper-infused water.

To prevent tarnish, I clean my copper pieces regularly with very common ingredients – salt and ketchup (yes, really). First, I sprinkle the items with salt, coat it with ketchup, and then I rinse the cup with water and mild Castile soap to wash about any leftover ketchup. Then I dry the cup with a soft cloth.

You can also use baking soda and water, vinegar or lemon to clean your copper goodies.
