Balance Your Heart Chakra With This Delicious Meal Plan

Springtime represents all the gentle transition nature makes from grey to green. As if it popped up overnight, green is the dominant color we see surrounding us, spotted with dots of red, pink and orange blossoms.
 
Our physical bodies actually pick up the vibrational waves of the nature around us. We naturally seek to be in harmony, yet our mind-body-soul sometimes struggles to shift and get into nature’s alignment.
 

Part of how we can help align ourselves with Spring is through the food we eat.

 
It’s common to feel a sense of upheaval or being out of balance when the seasons change. The good thing is that we can help ourselves get into the Spring sync by focusing on its complimentary chakra – the heart chakra, which is the energetic center of love. The heart chakra is the chakra associated with Spring.
 
Part of how we can help align ourselves with Spring is through the food we eat. The heart, or anahata chakra is the 4th chakra, and is represented by the color green. Thus, the vibrational equivalent in food terms is green vegetables!
 
 

What the Heart Chakra Represents

Let’s first take a look at the main characteristics of this energy center. The heart chakra is dominated by the emotion of love and how we give and receive love.
 

The heart chakra is the chakra associated with Spring.

 
In a balanced state, we gratefully accept and give love without conditions. We don’t judge and maintain an open heart to other people and situations. These feelings keep our physical heart in a calm and centered state.
 
Emotions of anger, resentment and feeling unloved are all signs of an unbalanced heart chakra. We need to become aware of these signs to help keep our heart center aligned and healthy.

How Food Helps Align the Heart Chakra

The heart chakra connects the three lower and three upper chakras so it’s the balance point in keeping the kundalini energy rising vertically. We can use preventative care to maintain a healthy and balanced chakra system, and that care begins with the foods that nourish each chakra.
 
The leafy greens that feed the heart chakra are naturally balanced, which means they act as a transition point that convert protein and carbs (which are foods that help nourish the lower three chakras). Since greens are produced through photosynthesis, eating them creates light inside of us, which helps open our heart chakra!
 
 

Heart Chakra Meal Plan

With green as our theme, we’ll continue by exploring a meal plan based on your heart chakra to give you a spring in your step and help you feel balanced. These are quick and easy recipes that take 20 minutes or less to prepare, so you can schedule them easily into your busy day.
 

Here are quick and easy recipes for each meal of the day:

 
 

Breakfast: Green Superfood Smoothie

Get a green palette of veggies (kale, spinach, etc) and fruits (green apples, kiwi, etc) into your blender for a delicious, satisfying and energizing smoothie. Add some green superfoods like wheatgrass, matcha powder, or spirulina. Herbs add a nice bite – try pairing mint and basil with a variety of the above ingredients.
 
Sample Smoothie: Add kale, kiwi, green apples, mint, and spirulina to base of choice (ice, almond milk, etc) and blend in food processor until smoothie consistency. Pour into a to-go cup for a quick and healthy breakfast on the go!
 
Note: remember to rotate your green leafy veggie selection. They have alkaloids that can be toxic to the body if you eat the same alkaloids every day, which is why it’s important to change them up every so often.
 

 

Lunch: Happy Heart Salad

Pile high fresh baby spinach and baby kale in a bowl, and accent them with complementary colors like pomegranate seeds, shredded parsnip, and sunflower seeds.
 
Give your salad a crunchy, creamy touch with fresh artichokes and sliced avocado. Slice artichokes and avocado thin and squeeze fresh lemon on both the artichokes and avocado to prevent browning.
 
Next time, grab a different medley of your favorite greens and explore other toppings to keep your salad variety new and fresh.
 
 

Dinner: Vellutata alla Primavera

An Italian dish that will warm a your heart, it’s a recipe for a creamy spring soup.
 
Ingredients:

  • 1 stalk of celery
  • 1 fennel
  • 1 leek
  • 1 bunch of asparagus (500 grams)
  • 1 liter organic vegetable broth
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • Coconut oil

 
Directions:

  • Saute chopped celery, leeks and fennel in coconut oil
  • Once these vegetables are soft, add 1 bunch of chopped asparagus and stir fry until soft
  • Add organic vegetable broth and bring to boil
  • Reduce heat and cover for 10 minutes
  • Stir in coconut milk
  • Let cool and use a food processor to create a creamy consistency
  • Re-heat and enjoy
  •  
     
    Once you’re done eating these delicious meals for your heart chakra, carry this ‘green theme’ into other parts of your life. Get outside in nature, walk barefoot in fresh cut grass, and do yoga outdoors at a park or in your yard.
     
    Remember to include some meditation and appreciation before you start your day to keep our heart happy and centered – all ingredients to keeping life light and happy. To quote Sri Mataji, “Love with your mind and think with your heart.”
