How I Finally Quit My Job to Travel the World

It was about 4 years ago that everything in my life seemingly fell apart . . . or as I have come to realize, actually fell together. I was going through the motions of what I thought I was supposed to be doing at 27 years old, but didn’t actually feel much of anything.

One day, I walked into work to discover we’d been defunded and that the company was shutting down. I panicked. This job I didn’t even really like was, at the very least, a paycheck. Around the same time, my four year relationship dissolved and I left. My life had been completely turned upside down. My guts were exposed in all their messy glory and I was 100% vulnerable. Isn’t that how the magic happens though?

My life had been completely turned upside down and I was 100% vulnerable.

It was at that point that I dove into the darkness of my soul and got super clear on what I wanted my life to look like. I adjusted my sails towards the life I never thought could actually be a reality and decided to move to Spain.

Four years later, I am writing this from Bali where I am living like a queen on a fraction of the budget I had in the states. I am running a company from the road, freelance writing, and exploring my inner and outer worlds to my heart’s content.

I have totally shifted the way I look at the world and the way I want to live in it. I live each day with a borderless, limitless, abundant mindset.

To make a dream come true, it requires intentional and consistent action to get the attention of the universe and align your inner world with your outer world. This is the lifestyle design that Timothy Ferriss talks about in his bestselling and life-changing book The Four Hour Work Week which also changed my life.

If you lie awake at night or stare out the window at your current job thinking about the magnificent wonders the world has to offer beyond the borders of your comfort zone, then I highly suggest you give it a shot – or at least a long think. When you take one step at a time and always keep the goal in mind, it’s more attainable than you think.

Why You Should Quit Your Job to Travel the World

You too can live the life of your dreams! Here are 5 reasons you should quit your job and pursue your passions on the road:

1. Find Your Purpose

Travel opens your mind to limitless potential and helps you realize your purpose in this life. When you retreat from the expectations of society and reconnect with what sets your soul on fire, you realize that you can do whatever it is your heart desires.

2. Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable

You’ve surely heard the quote, “life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” You really get to know yourself better when you are met with situations and people that force you to do something you’ve never done before.

You learn about how you handle things and how you react to missing a flight in a foreign country or having to navigate when lost in the rain. You’ll get extremely comfortable being uncomfortable, and that will fuel your personal growth.

3. Gain Supreme Clarity

We are all lost souls at one point or another. Whether you’re unclear of what direction to take in your career or whether or not the person you’re dating is “the one,” you’ll find clarity when you’re on the road. You’ll understand more about what makes you tick, and in turn, what fuels others as well.

When you give your mind space to think and release limiting beliefs, you come to understand things in your life with supreme clarity. With space comes clarity, and with clarity comes creativity.

4. Become a Warrior of the Soul

Once you’ve tasted the joys that life and travel has to offer, you’ll no longer be able to be happy working for a paycheck or being in a relationship that doesn’t inspire you to be your best self. You will become a warrior of your soul and will fight for what you know is right and what you need in order to go where you want to go in life.

When you retreat from the expectations of society and reconnect with what sets your soul on fire, you realize that you can do whatever it is your heart desires.

5. Stop Saying Yes to Sh*t You Hate

Quitting your job to travel the world will establish a new baseline for what you tolerate and what you simply just can’t. This is being an artist of the soul.

With space comes clarity, and with clarity comes creativity.

You’ll realize that saying yes to sh*t you hate robs you of joy and creates unnecessary stress. You’ll become so in tune with what is right for you that you’ll have no problem saying no, and you’ll realize that being a people pleaser pleases everyone but yourself.

Here’s the First Step to Quitting Your Job to Travel (YES You Can!)

Commit.

That is the first step. Allow the idea of quitting your job to travel sit in your body and notice how it makes you feel. Once you commit to the idea, it will start to grow on you and your mind will start to accept this grand plan. Ideas will come, situations will manifest to assist you, and the universe will help you realize your unrealized potential.

The fears will pop up, they always do. But it is your reaction to the fear that helps you grow and understand your true power. Trust yourself and leap joyfully into the unknown.
