The Simple Life Hack to a Healthier, Happier You In 2016

Every year we do the same thing for the holidays – we consume, consume, consume. And how do we feel after the holidays every year? Usually a bit drained, guilty and motivated to do things a bit differently next year.

How you feel after the holidays has a much larger effect on your health and happiness level than how the holidays make you feel in those temporary moments. Taking inventory of how you feel in the days after the holidays is a good indicator of what your most important resolution for the New Year should be. So how do you feel after the holidays have passed?

Typically we have an enjoyable time during the holiday season. It’s a time for family, friends, and celebration. We use the holidays as an excuse to be naughty and treat ourselves to a dose of overindulgence – not just one naughty night but usually consecutive weeks of bad behavior.

We eat too much, drink too much, over-socialize, shop till we drop, stay up too late, and skip that morning yoga class… or two.

Holiday time, as with everyday life, should not be treated as if we are going to an all-you-can-eat buffet where we should consume all that we possibly can.

The solution to combat all our present day issues is simple but not popular – be it health problems, ecological issues, weight, overindulgences of debt or excesses of any kind – the solution is very often to simply consume less.

  1. If you consume less junk food, you will have less health issues and maintain a healthier weight.
  2. If you eat less meat, you’ll have fewer ailments like heart, blood pressure and cholesterol issues.
  3. If you consume less goods and products, you will save money, have less stress, and not be anxious to make more money.
  4. If you own fewer things you will have less problems (the things we own end up owning us).
  5. If you learn to say “no” and commit yourself to fewer obligations, you’ll have more time. More time for meditation, more time for yoga, more time for your passions. . . more time for you.

Decide how you want to feel now that the holidays have passed and what kind of start you want to have with 2016.
