How Belly Dance Saved My Life (Video)

As someone who has suffered with depression, suicidal thought and an eating disorder, Belly Dance saved my life. It reminded me of my inner radiance and just like Yoga, this dance grounds me to the earth, keeping me in the present moment within my body. I feel it ignites my soul and brings me closer to the heavens.

As I was on the path of healing, I realized that my devotion and knowledge for Belly Dance was a gift. If irt could help heal me, then surely it had the capacity to heal others too. This dance form shows women how beautiful their curves are. It tunes them back into their bodies and their femininity and the sensual rhythmic elements of life.

I have always been fascinated with dance & creative movement but it was on a family holiday in Turkey when I was 15 that I first saw Belly Dance and it was love at first shimmy. I am now turning 30 and I have performed around the UK at festivals and events for a number of years. My Dance style is a blend of Turkish drum solos, meets tribal fusion and elements of Romany Gypsy in honor of my Roma heritage.

I am currently studying professional development in Dance Therapy and Chakra healing. My knowledge also specializes in depression and trauma-based disorders so I can facilitate Belly Dance workshops geared towards women’s mental health.

The near future involves me attending a Yoga Teacher Training, which I am currently saving for, as I believe teaching Belly Dance combined with Yoga will be an enriching powerful medicine for the mind, body and soul. There is just something utterly magical about bringing Belly Dance and Yoga together; it will be a beautiful alchemy of body movement and holistic creativity.
